How do you run electrical?
Most wiring runs through the interior partitions and ceiling the same as conventionally built framed houses. The difference is in the installation of electrical outlets and switches on the perimeter log walls. A 2 inch hole is drilled through the center of the log where the electrical box is to be installed. The log then has a gentle flat cut for the box. The box opening is cut and a fish wire is pulled through from the 2 inch hole. The electrician needs only to pull his electrical wire in with the fish wire.

What is the R-Value of Log Homes And Cottages?
The answer to this question variers from one type of log house to another. I feel comfortable saying that our log walls performs comparable to a R-20 framed house. Once a log is heated from the inside it will start to reflect heat back into the room easier than have it pass through the up to 20 inches of log you might have. The converse is also true in the summer. With our standard 4 foot overhang blocking the mid-day sun from your windows, and the logs natural ability to resist heat transfer, log houses stay quiet comfortable.

Does a Log Home really settle over time?
Yes. Round logs will shrink in diameter over roughly a 4 year period after construction. Typically a home or cottage will settle about 4-5 inches. This settling does not cause you any problems because we have perfected many techniques dealing with settling. I hope to explain them clearly below..

If a Log Home settles that much, how do you install windows and doors?
A zero maintenance system is used to prepare for windows and doors. This means that once the window and doors are installed and trimmed they will never need to be adjusted because of settling. I hope the diagram will illustrate our methods for you clearly.

As the upper log settles downward the settling board on top of the window slides into a slot in the log. Settling boards do not need to be removed and cut down in size over the years.
